Most 9 year olds grow their hair long because they refuse to let mum cut it off, but Jack Churchman has been growing his for a better cause.
Jack’s long hair has been more than 2 years in the making. He’ll be getting his long locks cut off to raise money for Cancer Council WA. The hair from Jack’s head will be made into a wig to be used by cancer sufferers who’ve lost their hair due to chemotherapy.
Jack’s family have already encountered friends and family with Cancer. Kids in his Sisters Kindergarten class, friends, his neighbour next door and even the family dog have been affected. This gave Jack the inspiration to do something to help.

Jacks says his hair is 29cm long (nearly 12 inches) and one of the bonuses of getting it cut off in December is that his hair won’t get blown in his face all the time.

That hasn’t stopped Jack and his family having a bit of fun though. Jack has been recreating scenes from blockbuster movies to help ramp up the donations.
