The University of WA have just conducted The PLAY Spaces & Environments for Children’s Physical Activity (PLAYCE) study on children and exercise. Over 2 years, the study monitored the amount of exercise kids aged 3 -5 get each day -the results are confronting.
66% of children are not getting even the most basic amount of activity they need.
Children of this age need at least 1 hour of energetic play a day for healthy development. We need kids to be more active even starting at the young age of 2 years.
In the time we’re not traveling, working, at school or day care we need to prioritise getting outdoors with the kids, even if it’s a quick walk around the block or jumping on the bikes and going up and down the street for 20 minutes.
