Thirteen year old Joe, is making children smile across the country with his colourful pillow cases.
He joined Bec and Jeziel to tell us more. Joe had 20cm of his bowel removed and after the operation, all he could think of was how he could help others. The hospital staff and volunteers had made his journey so much easier. “I wanted to be able to do the same for others going through hard times.” So with the help of his family, Joe started ‘Monster Smiles’ to inspire random acts of kindness, create smiles and raise awareness of Chrohn’s disease.
He worked with a graphic designer to create over 26 colourful designs including monsters, dragons, dogs, cats, unicorns, emojis and more! Anyone can visit his website to make a purchase and for each one sold another gets delivered to a child in hospital. “I deliver donation bundles to Perth Children’s Hospital, Fiona Stanley and to some organisations in Perth. I visited a horse riding school for the disabled last week and gave out pillow cases to the children.” The children appreciate the comfort and joy the pillowcases provide during difficult times. “The monsters also scare away bad dreams and parents love that.”
